Happy Friday everyone! I wanted to take today to introduce you to my friend J.L. Burrows as she talks about the journey that led her to write her debut book: Hunted By Darkness. I hope you find it as inspiring as I did!
“How does faith change our journey through life? If we are all going to suffer things like cancer, random acts of violence, politics, then what is the point of faith?
Faith has changed my journey, over and over again. At first, as a young Christian, I looked at the world through rose-colored glasses imagining that nothing bad would ever happen to me because I was the daughter of the King. I knew the Alpha and the Omega. My heavenly Father would protect me from everything and anything. Right?
Wrong. Being a Christian didn’t mean I wasn’t a part of this world. When my husband was diagnosed with a rare form of brain cancer, my rose-colored glasses shattered. My three-year-old might grow up without a father. My eight-year-old was acting out because our entire family was focused on taking care of my husband. We moved to Boston for life-saving treatments, and the kids and our pets were scattered to the winds as we leaned into family and friends to help us through this time.
Now, my daughter is twelve and my son is seventeen, and most miraculously my husband turns fifty next year. He was given two weeks to two years to live, and he has lived ten years since that fateful diagnosis day. So how did faith change my journey?
It gave me hope. I had someone beyond powerful to turn to when I could no longer stand on my own feet. I had promises I could repeat and post around my house. Faith does not cure to the human condition of sin. It’s a lifeline for our lives. It changes the journey because people without faith, without our heavenly Father, have little to cling to when the world upends.
That doesn’t mean everyone gets a miracle. It did for us, though, and I am grateful.
HUNTED BY DARKNESS explores the pain of a sinful world, the hurt of a
broken heart, the change faith can have in one person’s journey, because it can change everything if you let it. It’s a story for everyone who has grappled with the pain of loss, the fear cancer brings into life, why bad things happen, why some people are just awful. It will challenge you, drive you to seek answers for yourself, and my greatest desire is it will bring you hope and a new firm foundation. Because, though the world around me falls in sin and depravity, I can stand knowing my King has already conquered the grave.”
